Duchy House is within walking distance of major attractions such as: Somerset House, The Courtauld Gallery, The Lyceum Theatre, South Bank London, Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Oxford Street. Excellent travel links make Duchy House easy to reach, with 5 underground stations less than 800 meters from the property and several nearby bus routes. A 19th-century building with double and single occupancy bedrooms across four floors, with lift access. Guests have a choice of ensuite bedrooms (with private bathroom) and standard single rooms (with an external bathroom shared with one other guest). Duchy House is located on the junction of the Strand and Waterloo Bridge (the building's entrance is located between Boots and Café Nero on Waterloo Bridge (postcode WC2R 1HG) and across the road from the vibrant and bustling Covent Garden. Thus, whilst road traffic and the night-time economy in this part of London might pose a noise issue, windows in all bedrooms are fitted with secondary glazing. Guests wishing for a quieter stay should, therefore, request in the ‘Additional information’ section of the booking form a ‘rear-facing’ room, whilst those wishing to see out onto the Strand and Lyceum Theatre should request a ‘street side’ room. Please be aware that not all requests can be matched. The allocations are subject to availability and room type chosen.

Duchy House is operated by The Courtauld Institute of Art (the world's leading centre for the study of art history, conservation and curating) as a Halls of Residence during the academic year for Courtauld students, though rented privately throughout the summer period (June to September). Offering self-catering accommodation with a communal kitchen on each floor. Each kitchen is equipped with cooking appliances (hobs, oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, and a selection of crockery). A small Tesco Express Supermarket is located just across the road, with Boots the Chemist less than a minute away. For those wishing to explore there are many restaurants and bars close by. Covent Garden is only a 5-minute walk from Duchy House with Leicester Square a further few minutes from there. Another 5-minute walk and you're across the river, where the Southbank offers dining as well as some of London's leading cultural venues. Free internet access is available in each room. A coin-operated Laundry is available on-site. Swipe Card Access. Lift. Duchy House is secured by a card key entry system covering both the main entrance door and internal corridor doors. All bedrooms have individual key locks and the property has 24-hour CCTV coverage, thereby making Duchy House a safe place to stay. All bedrooms are equipped with double or single beds, wardrobe with a full-length mirror, desk and chair and a small fridge. Complimentary bottled water, hairdryer, towels and basic toiletries are provided. Please note there are no lockable safes for valuable items. Discounted entry is offered to guests to The Courtauld Gallery which is open from 10.00am to 18.00pm Monday to Sunday inclusive.

Check-in: From 2.00pm. Check-out: By 10.00am. A member of staff is on duty in Duchy House 24 hours a day to welcome you on arrival and to provide any assistance and deal with any queries you may have during your stay. If you have any pre-arrival queries please do not hesitate to contact the residence. There is some space for the storage of luggage on the day of check-out if required. For your check-in please go direct to Duchy House, dial number 1 via the intercom and press the call key ( the button with the bell symbol). You will be greeted by a member of the accommodation team. You can also contact the accommodation team via the phone number listed on your confirmation email should you require any assistance. Duchy House operates an appointment system for all bookings. Please ensure you have stated your expected arrival time when making your booking. For arrivals after 9pm please contact the team via the phone number listed on your confirmation email. How to find us: Duchy House is close to several underground stations, with directions for some listed below: Temple (District/Circle Line) - Exit the station and turn left. Walk up the stairs then turn left onto Temple Place. Cross the road and turn right onto Surrey Street. At the end of Surrey Street turn left onto the Strand. Continue walking and you will reach the corner of Strand and Lancaster Place. Continue round the corner and you will find the entrance to Duchy House Covent Garden (Piccadilly Line) - Turn left upon exiting the station then take the first right which is Long Acre. Continue down Long Acre and take the first right onto Bow Street. Walk on the left-hand side of Bow Street. At the end of the road use the traffic lights to cross onto the Strand. After crossing the road Duchy House will be on the corner of Strand and Lancaster Place. Continue round the corner and you will find the entrance to Duchy House. Embankment (Bakerloo, Northern, District/Circle Lines) - Take the exit on the left when leaving the station then walk straight ahead along Villiers Street. At the end of Villiers Street turn right onto the Strand and continue walking. As you reach Lancaster Place (Waterloo Bridge) you will need to cross the road. You will see the entrance to Duchy House in front of you as you cross (it's next to the Pret a Manger). Charing Cross, Holborn, and Waterloo stations are also within 10 minutes walking distance of Duchy House.
