Mount Tavy was once inhabited by English Cricketer John Carpenter-Garnier who was born in Mount Tavy, Tavistock in 1839 and later married Hon. Mary Louisa Trefusis, daughter of Charles Rodolph Trefusis, 19th Lord Clinton and Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Kerr. What is currently The Cottage was formerly classed as the the gardener's 'bothy' and in the grounds of Mount Tavy Cottage a wealth of historical features can still be found, such as the Victorian walled garden, the Ram House in the orchard (which was originally used to pump the water uphill) and the old Pump House (which was used to generate electricity). A full English or continental breakfast is included in the price and taken communally in the main cottage or the Old Greenhouse. Bacon and sausages are from a local organic farmer and the eggs are free range from their own hens. When staying in The Garden Studios, the facility of a continental breakfast delivered to your room is available. Dinner is available by prior arrangement (please request in the Additional Information section on the booking form together with any dietary requirements and please bring your own wine). Mount Tavy Cottage stands in its own grounds of 10 acres of land, right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, overlooking spectacular open countryside.
