The Speech House Hotel is ideally situated for visiting the Royal Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and Wye Valley in Herefordshire. Offering a range of cosy room types including pairs, doubles, romantic four posters, family bedrooms and smaller cottage bedrooms. They are all ensuite and are located either in the main building, in the courtyard or in the cottage. The Dean Forest was designated a National Park in 1938. It includes the Wye Valley as an area of outstanding natural beauty and the River Severn, world-famous for its tidal bore. It is one of England's few remaining ancient forests covering 27,000 acres of forest with an estimated 20 million trees. It is also home to abundant wildlife, including tourists, buzzards, deer and wild boar. The city has a rich and varied history, dating back to and well before the Roman Times. Visitors can see iron mines, coal mines, and many other forest heritage sites like Lydney Harbor. The ultimate is to explore with its woodland walks and adventure activities the ever-changing woods. There are a vast array of opportunities for walkers and artists including ornithologists, musicians, cyclists (along the 258-mile designated walking and cycle tracks).

Speech House was built in 1676 as a Hunting Lodge for Charles II. It is also home to the Historic Verderers Court, (One of only two in the UK). Verderers meetings are still held here 4 times a year or every 40 days to discuss the management of the vert and venison and other matters appertaining to the Forest. Enjoy the garden views from the light and comfortable Orangery restaurant and bar. Open from 8.00am to 6.00pm for morning coffee and afternoon teas. Light meals are available from 12.00pm through to 9.00pm with traditional roast dinners available on Sundays lunchtime. For a full Sunday lunch please reserve a table in The Verderer’s Court. Local ales are served in the Bar. If looking for a more formal dining environment, the beamed Verderer's Court restaurant reflects the room's continuing use as a courthouse for the Forest of Dean Verders. Serving a A la Carte menu which reflects seasonal and local produce. The Carolean restaurant is also available for private dining events with seating up to 20 guests. Speech House has a 14 acre field adjacent to the hotel which guests may use and on which many events are held. All bedrooms include; television with free view channels, complementary hospitality tray, room service, clock radio, telephone and towels. Wireless internet connection is available in all public areas, ideal for business and meeting preparation. Free on-site car parking. The hotel is dog friendly with rooms in the courtyard subject to availability, and dogs are welcome in the Orangery and garden but not in the Verderer's Court restaurant.
