Waddell Hall offers accommodation that is comfortable and cost-effective alternative to staying in a hotel or hostel. It is set against the backdrop of the historic city of Lancaster, with spectacular views over Morecambe Bay, an ideal base for exploring Cumbria, Lancashire and the surrounding areas such as the Lake District, the Forest of Bowland or the Yorshire Dales. The single study rooms are arranged over 3 floors and are organised into 6/7 bedroom self-catering flats. Each bedroom is fully furnished with a single bed, wardrobe and desk. All flats share a kitchen/diner with a cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. The majority of the rooms over look a nice grassy courtyard. The campus is just a ten minute walk from the town centre and 10 minutes drive from the M6.

Formed in 2007, the University of Cumbria is one of the England´s newest University but with a long history. It has developed from the root of St. Martin´s College, the Cumbrian Institute of Arts and the Cumbrian campus of the University of Central Lancashire. Whether you want a cooked meal, a quick bite or somewhere to relax with a drink, discover the range of on-campus restaurants and cafes. View!: Is situated on the top floor of the Gateway building. The menu changes daily, following a three weekly cycle. Room 301: Enjoy breakfast, grab a coffee or a bite to eat, or just spend time with friends. Enjoy the music or have a game of pool. Cafe Martineau: Take time out and enjoy fresh ground coffee, speciality teas, chilled beverages, hot savouries, soup, sandwiches, cakes and confectionary items. Social Bar: Enjoy a traditional university bar atmosphere or call in for a bar meal (served all day). Snack Zone: Designed for hungry people on the go. Check out the Deli counter and the wide range of cold drinks and snacks. Please ask at reception for the opening hours out of term time. There is a large sports field and a number of smaller landscaped areas on campus with spectacular views across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells. Within 3 minutes’ walk it is also located Williamson Park, a Victorian park with outstanding views. The park was landscaped from the remnants on an old stone quarry and can be explored by woodland walkaways and broad avenues of attractive trees, shrubs and flowers. Enjoy the large, multi-purpose sports hall which offers a variety of sports including; Badminton, Basketball, Five-a-side football, Volleyball, Trampolining and Netball. There are 2 adapted ensuite rooms for independent wheelchair users or with hearing impairment. Broadband internet is available at all the residences (through ethernet connection). On-site amenities include a cash machine, coin operated laundry facilities priced at £2 per wash and £1 per dry. Secure bicycle stores and recycling bins.

Arrival information

Earlier check-in or later check-out times are available by prior arrangment and subject to availability. Please mention in the additional information section of the booking form. Upon arrival on campus please report to the main reception which is located in the entrance to the Gateway building (the building on the right hand side as you come on to campus from the main drive from Bowerham Road). Reception is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday where you will be given your keys and general information. Outside of Office hours a Security Officer is on duty each evening from 6pm to 8am and throughout the weekend. The security team can be found at the entrance to the Harold Bridges Library and the Keep (the building on the left hand side as you come on to campus). At the weekend and after 6pm, please report to the security desk on arrival. Directions: From the north leave the M6 at junction 34 and follow signs to the City centre. Travel south, keeping in the left lane of the one-way system. Just past the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (on the right), take the first exit at the large roundabout onto Bowerham Road. The entrance to the campus is 300 yards on the left, opposite Bowerham Primary School. From the south leave the M6 at junction 33 and follow the A6 into Lancaster. At the first roundabout, take the third exit onto Bowerham Road. The entrance to the campus is 300 yards on the left, opposite Bowerham Primary School. Parking: Car parking is available on campus 24/7 and is free after 6.00pm and during the weekend. Parking charges do apply during the day on campus but parking permits are included for accommodation guests and can be collected on arrival. If you need a parking permit, please indicate that clearly on your booking. Disabled parking spaces are clearly marked across all car parking areas on campus. By Rail: Lancaster is on the main west coast rail line from London to Glasgow. The campus is a 20-minute walk or short taxi ride away which should cost under £10. From the station: Leave the station passing the main ticket office and via the station slip road and left onto Meeting House Lane. Continue to the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill and turn right onto King St/A6. continue straight ahead, against the flow of road traffic. At the canal bridge traffic lights, continue straight ahead, remaining on A6. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Bowerham Road. The entrance to the campus is 300 yards on the left. There is a pedestrian footpath.
