Originally built as a hunting lodge in the 1700’s, The Hafod Hotel stands alongside the “Devil’s Bridge” at the head of the dramatic waterfalls and the wooded gorges of the Mynach and Rheidol rivers. In this superb setting - at the Western edge of the Cambrian Mountains and Elan Valley - it is within easy reach of the coastal University town of Aberystwyth. All of the bedrooms are individually furnished and are en suite. 12 of the 16 bedrooms have a front facing view over the gorge and some with spectacular views of the waterfall in the distance. Other rooms have views of the gardens to the rear of the hotel.
The hotel was originally a small hunting lodge built in 1787 by Thomas Johnes, the then squire of The Hafod Mansion Estate, and it was enlarged and converted into a Swiss style chateau in 1839 by the third Duke of Newcastle and Sir Henry Houghton. Over the years further modification was carried out, particularly by John Waddingham, during 1870 to 1892. Full English breakfast included and served in the restaurant. In the evening the restaurant serves fine dining dishes using local seasonal produce. Open from 7.00pm until 8.30pm. The Three Bridges Bar has a friendly and informal atmosphere, ideal for relaxing with a refreshing drink after a long walk. In the winter months there is a wood burning stove giving that extra feeling of warmth and welcome. For lighter snacks, bar meals are served from 12.00pm-3.00pm (Except on Monday lunchtimes) 7.00pm-9.00pm (9.30pm on Fridays & Saturdays). Large gardens at the rear of the property with outdoor seating and spectacular views. Plenty of fields to exercise dogs, who are welcome at the hotel. Sky TV is available in the bar showing all of the popular sporting events throughout the year. A Pool table and dart boards are also available in the bar area. The Drawing Room which is open to both residents and non-residents has a good selection of books and board games and this room is ideal for relaxing with a drink.
