Less mobile guests can stay in ground floor bedrooms which have wheelchair access, please advise in the additional information box should any special requirements need to be met. Pets are also welcome to stay with guests and there is a number of rooms suitable to accommodate guests and well-behaved dogs for an additional charge. This luxury hotel is just seven miles from the M62, almost equidistant from Leeds and Manchester and ideally located as a base from which to explore the Pennines and the Dales, with Bronte country on the doorstep. In Halifax, Eureka! Museum for Children is the first and foremost hands-on children’s museum in the UK and a little further afield is the National Media Museum and the Hockney Gallery.

The present manor house, built by Abraham Brigg in 1633, retains many period features including splendid mullioned windows, oak panelling, wig cupboards and, above the central gable, the stone Maltese cross of the chivalric Order of St John of Jerusalem. Over the years, there have been a variety of celebrities visiting the hotel but the most famous of them all must surely be The Beatles who stayed here at the height of their fame in 1964 on John Lennon’s 24th birthday. The 2 AA Rosette restaurant at Holdsworth House offers modern home-cooked food. The three adjoining, beautifully furnished rooms overlook the gardens – The Stone Room, The Panelled Room and the Mullioned Room. Each offers a unique atmosphere, a lovely original fireplace and stone mullioned windows to the outside world. Both the a la carte and bar menus are available. Using fresh and local produce from Yorkshire suppliers with each dish prepared freshly to order pre-booking is advised.
