Located in Micklegate House; a Georgian townhouse built in 1752 and located in one of the oldest parts of the city. This impressive townhouse boasts magnificent original features including a stone-flagged entrance hall, grand sweeping staircase, panelled rooms, vaulted cellar and Rococo ceiling, with modern improvements and air conditioning throughout for additional comfort. Accommodation is available in a variety of choices from double/family ensuite bedrooms to mixed dorms which sleep from 4 - 12 guests. The accommodation is within easy walking distance to attractions, transport, shops, bars and restaurants.
Micklegate House was built for John Bourchier of Beningborough Hall, a direct descendant of Sir John Bourchier who signed King Charles the First's death warrant; the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments describes Micklegate House as the most important Georgian residence south west of the River Ouse. It is said to have been designed by famous architect John Carr of York and was finished in 1752. Continential breakfast is available at an additional cost of £4 per person and is served between 7.00am and 9.00am. There are many places to eat within walking distance of the property and a 24 hour vending machine is available for snacks and drinks. Guests can relax and socialise in the outdoor courtyard, split across two levels that features outdoor seating, lighting and a smoking area. Bedrooms include the following facilities; reading light, air conditioning, linen Included, security lockers and key card access. Ensuite private bedrooms also have the benefit of a flat screen television and tea and coffee making facilities. General facilities include; bicycle parking, 24 hour reception, towels hire, hairdryer for hire and luggage storage. Wi-Fi is available free of charge in all public areas. Guests can relax in the licensed bar area which also includes a pool table. The property has an internet room available for guests use and an onsite laundry.
Directions: From the station turn right down Queens Street, for a few minutes, then turn left onto Micklegate. The hostel is a few hundred yards down on the left. Nearest Train Station: York. Micklegate House is just 5 minutes walk from York Railway station and 5 minutes walk from the bus terminal.
