Sidney Sussex College is pleased to offer clean, simple accommodation in the unique historic surroundings of a traditional college in the heart of Cambridge. Bedrooms can be chosen within the grounds of the college in either Blundell Court, Garden Court, Cloister Court or Sussex House. There are also bedrooms located outside of the College about 5 minutes walk away, in Sidney House and Cromwell Court. Most bedrooms have a wash hand basin and you will be provided with towels and soap. Bathrooms are shared between 4-5 bedrooms unless you are in an ensuite room. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, internet access and are serviced daily by the Housekeeping staff. Please note that a project to build new kitchens started in the Master's garden in October 2018. This will affect the views from some bedrooms and may also result in noise and disturbance on the main College site during daytime working hours until August 2020.

Founded in 1596 Sidney Sussex is a very well-kept secret - whether it is Elizabethan brickwork, charming Cloister Court, the haunting Chapel, exquisite Rococo Hall, medieval cellars or beautiful ancient gardens - they all lie behind a rather self-effacing wall of Roman cement. Sidney's history is an even better-kept secret including the precise point at which Oliver Cromwell's head is buried. As one of the smaller Colleges, Sidney Sussex has a strong community spirit and is known for its warm and friendly welcome to visitors. All rates include breakfast prepared by the College’s award-winning chefs. Please note that during the building project it may be necessary to temporarily relocate the dining room to another room within the College. Breakfast times are displayed at the Porters Lodge and outside the dining room. Please check the current times as these may change according to the time of year. If you require breakfast before 7:30am please let us know and a continental breakfast can be arranged if requested prior to arrival. Please make your request in the Additional Information section of the booking form. The College student bar is not open out of term, however, the city centre location means there are numerous bars and restaurants located only a short distance away from the College. Sidney Sussex has two outstanding courtyards surrounded by Grade I listed buildings dating from 1596. The small and friendly atmosphere of the College can be sampled in the Fellows' Garden and Cloister Court where guests can sit and enjoy the peace and quiet in magnificent surroundings. Internet access is available in all bedrooms; in most areas wireless access is possible. Personal log in details will be provided on check in. The College is unable to offer parking on site, however, there are several car parks located closeby. A Park and Ride scheme is also available which allows car parking for up to 72 hours.

Arrival information

Rooms are available to check in from 1:00pm on the day of arrival. On the day of departure, guests are required to vacate bedrooms and return keys to the Porters' Lodge by 10:00am to enable the rooms to be serviced for incoming guests. Guests should check-in at the Porters' Lodge at the front of the College (opposite Sainsbury's on Sidney Street). The Porters' Lodge is open for check-in and check-out between 06.00am and 11.00pm. Outside these times, a night porter is on site to deal with emergencies only. The main gate by the Porters' Lodge is closed at 10pm.
