Staunton House is an early 19th Century rectory set in countryside near the historic town of Leominster, providing extremely comfortable B&B accommodation. In case you're an enthusiast of rural countryside, this is a perfect spot to stay- and you may wish to walk and explore The Marches, Offa's Dyke, National Trust properties and Herefordshire's numerous memorable strongholds and holy places. Specifically, Hereford Cathedral and its Mappa Mundi and one of a kind Chained Library. Close by is the Georgian town of Ludlow - prestigious for its celebrated cafés and medieval stronghold. Sixteen miles away is Hay-on-Wye, settling under the lower regions of the Black Mountains and universally known for it Literary Festival, which happens in May For fishing enthusiasts, the Wye and Usk Foundation have recently made extensive improvements to the Brown Trout and Grayling fishing in the upper reaches of these two well known rivers - and day tickets are readily available.
Staunton House was built in 1802 as a rectory for Staunton-on-Arrow's St Peter’s Church which sits on a hill in the village. The church has been much restored but the earliest records are of a vicar here in the 13th Century. At the dissolution in 1538, it came under the patronage of Wigmore Abbey. The present structure is mainly of the 1850s with the East window representing scenes of the Nativity, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and the Journey to Emmaus. The figures in the West window shrine are of Paul and Peter. The full English breakfast is included in the price. The two or three-course dinner can be provided (please request in the Additional Information section on the booking form) and is served by candlelight in the beautiful formal dining room. The kitchen garden provides fresh vegetables for those enjoying the delicious home-cooked dinners. The house and extensive gardens are situated in an area of 3 acres, and the accommodation boasts a heated swimming pool, summerhouse and astroturf tennis court behind a walled garden. Check in: From 4.00pm Check out: By 10.00am Directions: A44 Leominster-Pembridge then right to Shobdon. After 0.5 miles, turn left to Staunton-on-Arrow. At cross-roads, straight over into the village. Staunton House is opposite the church, with black wrought-iron gates. By Rail: Leominster train station is 9 miles away. Taxi's are available.
